The ALPINA driving experience is unique, best characterised as effortless. The well balanced chassis and suspension set-up plays a central role, providing a superior ride comfort and sharpened dynamics at the same time.

The Driving Experience Control switch which controls the electronically adjustable dampers both in compression and rebound, enables the driver to select a preferred mode ranging from Comfort+ to Sport+. ALPINA specific sport springs are shorter and stiffer, enhancing handling and dynamics further by lowering the centre of gravity. Coupled with the performance oriented all-wheel drive system with fully variable torque distribution and an active rear limited slip differential means traction and agility is maximised.


Ultra-high-performance tyres from Pirelli measuring 255/45 ZR20 front (EU tyre label: C / A / 71 dB) and 285/40 ZR20 rear (EU tyre label: C / A / 71 dB) are responsible for perfect road holding and grip. The optional 22” wheel and tyre set-up, a new development by Pirelli for the BMW ALPINA XD3 and XD4, measures 255/35 ZR22 front (EU tyre label: E / B / 69 dB) and 295/30 ZR22 rear (EU tyre label: E / B / 70 dB). Both the 20” and the 22” Pirelli P Zero with ALP labelling have been explicitly  developed in accordance to ALPINA’s requirements with regards to dynamics and comfort. Combining motorsport technology with a flat shoulder contour and an innovative tread pattern facilitates high lateral loads and precise steering feeling without compromising wet handling.

In combination with ALPINA CLASSIC 22“ forged wheels reduced top speed by approximately 5 km/h.

Both the BMW ALPINA XD3 and XD4 come with an electronically controlled active rear limited slip differential. This improves traction when driving dynamically by ensuring that slip-induced losses are minimised and torque is distributed effectively to the wheel with the most grip at any given point in time. This further enhances driving dynamics, even in combination with all-wheel drive, and operates in conjunction with the ALPINA specific, rear-wheel biased, torque distribution.


A BMW ALPINA offers a high degree of comfort and sportiness as well as neutral handling, which ensures stability and a high-degree of safety even when driving at higher speeds.

The electronic driving stability control systems are specifically configured for each specific BMW ALPINA model, taking into account a plethora of influencing parameters, in order to ensure that the high power and torque are transferred to the road safely and effectively.

The influence of the aerodynamic properties of a vehicle on driving stability is of particular importance, especially at higher speeds. Based on the principle ‘Form Follows Function‘, the aerodynamic components such as the front and rear spoilers are specifically designed to work together in order to achieve the maximum possible reduction in lift and thus ensure very neutral handling.

High performance brakes

Designed to match the performance of the new BMW ALPINA XD3 and XD4, the brake system incorporates a four piston fixed-calliper with Ø 395 mm discs at the front and a floating-calliper with Ø 370 mm discs at the rear. A high-performance brake system is optionally available – this combines lightweight drilled composite discs measuring Ø 395 mm at the front and Ø 398 mm at the rear with sport-spec brake pads for even more fading resistance under very high loads (Attention: sport-spec brake pads and drilled brake discs can lead to increased brake noise or brake vibration).
